General Info
The most popular starting point for the KHW is Vierschach in Southern Tirol (Italy). Well known as a popular skiing area offering 10 lifts and 22 km of slopes in winter, hikers may also use the lifts in the summer months to access the various tour starting points.

Tickets can be purchased directly at the lift in Vierschach.
KHW 403
Start your hike along the KHW with a ride in the cable car. Upon exiting the cable car, you will be greeted by amazing views of the Southern Tyrolian Dolomites. From here, walk along the hut road towards Helm and Sillianer Hütte. Either continue direct to the hut, or veer off and hike to the „Heimkehrerkreuz“.

Sillianer Hütte, already situated in Austria, is approximately 2 hours and 6 km from your starting point. If you are fit and ready to make day one more strenuous, then continue on to Obstansersee Hütte.

As base camp for the KHW we recommend Bergsteigerdorf Mauthen. Acclimatize in beautiful Kötschach-Mauthen for a couple of days before catching a taxi to Vierschach. Take the cable car to Helm and start your KHW hike. 4 -5 days later you reach Untere Valentinalm from where you either hike, or catch a ride back to the valley and your base camp in Kötschach-Mauthen.
